Welcome weary travelers to the Dimmer Switch, a weekly column with a focus on humor. I am so excited I have chills. I also have chronic diarrhea, but I don't think it's related.

See what I did there? A joke about bodily functions in the first paragraph, an example of one extreme of the humor spectrum. Perhaps instead of going the low route, I could have made an interesting observation about how the decline of American culture relates to the addition of new marshmallows to Lucky Charms (blue diamonds were added in 1975, the same year Saturday Night Live began). There is a crude demonstration of what the Dimmer Switch is all about.

Humor functions a lot like a dimmer switch. It can be set high for intelligent observational humor, or it can be set low for poop jokes. Not every issue of the Switch will cover the full humor spectrum, but it will fall somewhere within these extremes.

Now that we are clear about what the Dimmer Switch stands for, I hope that you will join me every Thursday where we will contemplate the ramifications of most recent political hot topic or discuss my latest adventure of cutting matted fur from my dog's rear end. Fun will be had by all, except for my dog who seemed a bit embarrassed by the experience.
